Conference calls, a tip to overcome public speaking

January 27, 2011 in Conferencing Tips

Can I let you in on my little secret? I hate public speaking! Can't stand it. Yea, I know, I've been through Carnegie... twice. I was also a member of Toastmasters... twice. That's where I met Warren.Let me take you back a few years, back to when I was 17, and a Junior, at Nauvoo-Colusa High. I was just about to give a speech in Daniel Finton's history class. The dead president I choose to talk about was Andrew Jackson. Nothing against Mr. Jackson, but he really made me nervous. I was fine when Mr. Finton announced my name, but about 30 seconds into my "speech" I began shaking slightly and began to get very nervous, my voice quivered, my hands and arms shook. I had no idea what was happening. I had never experienced anything like this before... Turns out, I really don't like to get up in front of a group and speak.... about anything. Speaking one-on-one or in a small office group I'm fine, in fact, some would say I excel. But on stage, in public, in front of even a small group of 30 people or less, I'm a D I S A S T E R...! Don't really know why, and it doesn't really matter because on November 17, 2003 I discovered a secret weapon against my apparent problem; professional conference calling. With conference calling, I can have 100 people on my call and it does not matter. It's you and me, one-on-one baby. I can do one-on-one virtual stages easily, I just can't do the "real" ones. Relax, get comfortable, write an agenda that inspires, recruit 7 members to start, and go have a conference call to change your world! In 2003 I radically changed my world by learning about, utilizing, and applying professional conference calling to my sales career. This makes conference calling my #1 public speaking tip. If I did it, so can you! Call my feedback hotline anytime at 707.633.8871. I'm here to help.
